About Changchun University of Medicine

Established in 195, Changchun University of Chinese Medicine was Originally called Changchun College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. For the past 50 years, adhering to the spirit of educational innovation and developing specializations with the motto “Absorbing essence, Esteeming virtue and modern technology”, the University has successfully developed a system for teaching, research, medical treatment, management and personnel training. It has become a new type of University, one  that has a holistic approach to education; embracing diverse branches of medicine, science, engineering, management, and humanities. As the only Chinese medicine University in Jilin Province, the institution enjoys an esteemed reputation and can grant Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and Doctoral degree.

Approved by the State Ministry of Education, the University has begun enrolling international students since 1992. The International students cover undergraduates, postgraduates and PhD candidates. The university has established friendly ties with more than 20 countries and their respective research institution, and held international Chinese medicine conferences a number of times. Standing at the threshold of a new beginning, the university will focus more on strategic planning to improve the quality of the school through the  “Twelve-Fifth” standards or even beyond to achieve a sustainable increase in enrollment, a campus expansion, a faculty made up of more distinguished doctors & educators, a State-qualified & Ministry-approved academic reputation, and more faculty recipients of National awards & recognition. We are dedicated to becoming a first-class Chinese medicine university with out own distinctive characteristics in teaching and research.

Introduction

Jinzhou Medical University is one of the higher provincial schools in the western part of Liaoning Province. In 2006, with the approval of the State Council of China, the former name Jinzhou Medical University was changed after the name of the province as Jinzhou Medical University. Approved by the Academic Degrees Committee under the State Council, JMU became a university in 1999. Since 2003, this university has been qualified to grant Master’s degree to clinical medical graduate students.

The campus covers 1,140,000 square meters and lies in the north of the city. Six kinds of education are offered in JMU: general high education, state-owned privately run education, adult education, vocational education, online education and international students` education. The university enrolls undergraduate, graduate and master as well as postgraduate students.

There are 16 teaching departments, 98 teaching offices, 56 teaching laboratories, 4 affiliated comprehensive hospitals and 169 bases for teaching and practice. The university`s curriculum comprises 21 specialized undergraduate subjects, 32 master degree programs and 1 doctor degree program. Among the faculty members there are 823 full-time teachers, 74 of whom have been granted a doctoral degree, 533 associate professors and 219 professors and chief doctors. The university`s library has an advanced electronic reading room and has access to the retrieval system for medical documents from the American MEDLINE and the Chinese Medical Institute.

Education Base

International Education College of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine is the main teaching management department of the international students, also including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students in out school. It mainly deals with the overseas reception of undergraduates, postgraduates of master and doctor, short-term language students, all kinds of advanced students who are longing for learning TCM and other majors, and the preparatory Chinese students who want to lay foundation for learning TCM.

The advanced students can have lessons in Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc.,  It is also equipped with Chinese medicine practitioner qualification exam training class in this college. The college can undertake the license exam of Chinese International Acupuncture, Massage, and TCM practitioners.

Presently, the university has  15 majors for Undergraduates, 22 granting authorities for Master’s degree, 2 for Doctoral degree, 2 Post-doctoral mobile stations and 1 Post-doctoral innovation research station. Currently, the university has 9870 students, 2027 faculty and staff, including 163 professors, 369 associate professors, 6 tenured professors, 52 PhD advisers, 245 master’s degree advisers, 1 “National Doctor” and “Norman Bethune Medal” recipient, 3 national outstanding teachers. 29 professors honored with a special subsidy by the State Council. 16 young specialists doing important contributions for Jilin province and the country, 6 senior experts of Jilin province, 3 “Famous Teachers”, 2 “New Century Excellent Talents” as recognized by Jilin Education Department, 2 prestigious teachers, 1 new century chief-professor, and 17 “Jilin Eminent Chinese Medicine Doctors”

The Academic departments include Pre-clinical Medical College, Chinese Pharmacology College, Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Massage College, Humanities and Administration College, Nursing School, International Education College, Clinical Medicine College, Graduate School and School of Continuing Education. The non-academic departments include the Library, Modern Technology Center, Research and Development Center, Ginseng Institute and etc.,

Library

The teaching instruments values RMB 8,162 million, the library has a collection of 1,100,000 volumes among which some reputed high academic evaluation, publishing academic journals of Changchun University of the campus  Chinese Medicine, Jilin Chinese Medicine, People’s healthy and happiness of senior citizens.

The University began enrolling international students approved by the Ministry of Education in 1992. For the past few years, the university has established friendly ties with more than 20 countries and research institutes, held international Chinese Medicine conferences.

Clinical Base

There is one provincial enlisted excellent subject, and five provincial enlisted first-class subjects. It offers eleven majors. There have been 1833 graduates over three years, and the employment rate is more than 85%. Now, the faculty of Medical Science is opening a new chapter in medical education and is bringing glory to the development of the college.

There are 4 professors and 5 associates professors in the department. All doctors have obtained master’s degree or above, including 1 postdoctoral fellow, 1 postdoctoral fellow, and 6 doctoral degree and doctoral degree. There are 150 beds in the treatment area and 4 specialist outpatient clinics. It is the clinical, teaching and research base for the study of internal medicine in Chinese medicine.
